Gas tanks are formally known as "gas storage tanks" and are frequently referred to as "compressed air storage tanks" within compressed air systems. Their primary function is to store gas that has been compressed by a compressor and to supply it to production equipment based on operational needs. These tanks serve purposes beyond mere storage; they stabilize pressure, buffer airflow, and reduce the frequency of air compressor start-ups, making them vital auxiliary components in compressed air systems.

In terms of appearance, gas storage tanks are typically enclosed metal pressure vessels available in vertical and horizontal configurations. Vertical tanks feature a cylindrical body with curved end caps at the top and bottom; due to their compact footprint, they are commonly found in space-constrained environments such as factories and workshops. Horizontal tanks feature a cylindrical body positioned sideways-also with end caps at both ends-and are usually secured to the ground via legs or supports. This configuration offers high installation stability and is frequently employed in large-scale compressed air systems.

The tank body is typically constructed from steel plate, with surfaces treated for rust and corrosion prevention. Depending on operational requirements, the tank is equipped with components such as an inlet, an outlet, a pressure gauge, a safety valve, and a drain port. Although the overall structure appears simple, the containment of pressurized gas necessitates strict adherence to standards regarding structural strength, welding quality, and safety accessories. Through sound structural design, the tank safely stores a specific volume of compressed air while ensuring a stable air supply for downstream equipment.
